Visitor 360 – Understanding Visitor Movement and Engagement Opportunities

While there are certainly US examples emerging, Europe is firmly in the lead when in comes to developed smart city infrastructure. Barcelona, Amsterdam and others have gotten the technical infrastructure (or Integrated Data Exchange) in place and are now able deploy flexible analytical ecosystems to mine and operationalize integrated city-wide data. While much of this data comes from the connected physical 'things' in the network (like parking sensors/meters, traffic signals, and mobility systems such as trains, trams, and buses), many of the 'things' sharing data in these environments are the biological things in the city such as citizens and visitors/tourists. As these smart cities have established the foundation for managing the things in their ecosystem, they're also extending the ways to use that insight and automation to improve the way visitors or tourists interact with all of the city services.

Data Lakes Analytics with S3 and Azure BLOB Storage

Teradata is implementing a capability that enables data scientists and analysts to gain meaningful business insights faster from raw semi-structured and unstructured data — including IoT, clickstream, and social feeds — stored on S3 or Azure BLOB storage subsystems. Recently flexible and low cost public cloud file systems made it economical to retain semi/unstructured data at scale. The challenge now is how to maximize data scientist and analyst productivity with that data. Too often, they spend much more time wrangling data — for example, filtering, transforming, and moving data around — than they do unlocking impactful business insights from it. Teradata addresses this challenge by enabling semi/unstructured data on public cloud or on-premise file systems to be analyzed on demand using standard SQL. The data can also be joined with relational data in the Teradata Analytics Platform and transformed using Teradata's built-in database functions.

Time is spent cleaning, moving and shaping unwieldy, unclean, multi-structured data into various data containers before we can even start categorizing it. This is followed by actually attempting to gain insight using this data. Fawad and Chris will walk through a use-case of scanning PDF files of contracts taken from a Telco, extract billing rules and compare it to the actual revenue assurance and show how these increasingly complex problems of data engineering, collaborative development, model development lifecycle, and varying language toolkits can be mitigated using a combination of tools. This session is an experience report, and like every experience report, it tells a story – the story of a project, unvarnished and without artifice, programmer to programmer, often involving one or more of comedy, tragedy, farce etc. This report is no exception.

A Closer Look at Incremental Planning and Execution (IPE)

IPE is a major enhancement to the Teradata optimizer. The feature can provide a performance boost to your queries, and perhaps eliminate some of the worst performance you experience stemming from queries that are optimized based on bad statistics or poor sampling. It's a feature that takes some getting used to, and may require you to change some of your most entrenched techniques for researching query performance. In this session we'll look at IPE in more depth. We'll explore the system settings that impact when IPE comes into play. We'll look at how IPE radically changes how you can rely on an Explain for insight into a query's execution. We'll compare traditional 'Static' explains to the new 'Dynamic' explains introduced with IPE. We'll explore DBQLXML as a valuable resource when IPE is in use. And of course, we'll look at some examples of performance differences when IPE comes into play with a query.

Using some of the newest technology in projects can make them go quickly and easily. I have been able to create applications within a few days from start to finish to deploy on the internet and mobile devices. I will share with you some techniques so you can build these applications for your company and customers. I have learned these skills through an App Development class at school and through my own research. I have demonstrated my use of these services to the Ohio School Boards Association. A few of the key, free-to-use tools include MIT App Inventor, Firebase Database, Google Analytics, and Google Sites. These services enable rapid prototype deployment to solicit users' feedback. I will show you these services, and you can start using them today.

Cleveland Clinic Delivers Enterprise Analytics Capability with Teradata

To advance Enterprise Analytics, Cleveland Clinic partnered with Teradata to develop a comprehensive architecture. After the first 15 months, increased capability has been delivered in several key areas. This presentation will provide an overview of the environment and share success stories that have led to demonstrated value. The architecture includes Teradata structured database platform, Hadoop cluster, Data Labs, and a SAS 750 Teradata appliance connected with private ByNet network. The capacity and performance of the database has enabled analysis to support value-based care initiatives by housing data from both the financial and clinical domains. This capability along with the speed of performance were not possible in the previous environment. The ability to join data across systems has provided new ways to combine data between Hadoop and Teradata through QueryGrid. Multiple examples of Data Labs initiatives will also be reviewed to show how it too has quickly provided value.

Royal Bank of Canada: Leveraging Discovery to Enhance Corporate Encryption

In order to be PCI compliant, financial institutions have to take action to insure personal and confidential customer data is protected from internal and external threats. Encryption/tokenization technologies provide a solution to meet these criteria but lack the ability to discover this data if it is not located in structured RDBMS systems with accurate table and column meta data. In today's world of mergers and acquisitions bringing large DBMS platforms together, combined with the increased usage of semi-structured and unstructured data, many large organization are not confident they completely understand where all sensitive data is located. Royal Bank of Canada is the largest bank in the country. If they focus solely on the known data, they leave themselves exposed from a compliance and risk perspective. This session will highlight how RBC is augmenting their encryption technology with data discovery technology to ensure all PCI data is protected for complete PCI compliance.

That two HA Unity servers, two Teradata Developer edition servers and a Unity Cloud Tools monitor and management system. These cloud tools allow you to monitor any Unity system on-premises or in any cloud environment. The system we will stand up allow you to test applications in the cloud before you ever bring them into your production environment. Network willing, we will stand up a Unity test environment along with managed developer edition Teradata servers and Unity Cloud Tools — monitoring system all in a public cloud.
