Data Lake Analytics with S3 and Azure BLOB Storage

Teradata is implementing a capability that enables data scientists and analysts to gain meaningful business insights faster from raw semi-structured and unstructured data including IoT, clickstream, and social feeds – stored on S3 or Azure BLOB storage subsystems. Recently flexible and low cost public cloud file systems made it economical to retain semi/unstructured data at scale. The challenge now is how to maximize data scientist and analyst productivity with that data. Too often, they spend much more time wrangling data for example, filtering, transforming, and moving data around than they do unlocking impactful business insights from it. Teradata addresses this challenge by enabling semi/unstructured data on public cloud or on premise file systems to be analyzed on demand using standard SQL. The data can also be joined with relational data in the Teradata Analytics Platform and transformed using Teradata's built-in database functions.

Leveraging Discovery to Enhance Corporate Encryption

In order to be PCI compliant, financial institutions have to take action to insure personal and confidential customer data is protected from internal and external threats. Elastic-Like Capabilities in Teradata Workload Management

While not directly increasing or decreasing processing power, Teradata Active System Management (TASM) provides a type of elasticity that is focused on dynamic shifts in the level of system resources given to queries in order to meet changing business needs. This session will explore several features of TASM that automate changes in how much resource is given to groups of users, applications, or single requests. We'll talk about dynamic adjustments to request priority using workload exceptions. We'll drill down on how system events are able to detect change on the platform and how they initiate a rebalancing of resource allocations. And we'll explore the new Flex Throttle feature that automatically pulls queries out of the throttle delay queue when the system is being under-utilized. Having achieved significant recognition amongst prospective clients world-wide through 2017 with a recent proposal invitation from a large global Telco who were 'impressed by the architectural foundation' thus presented. Analytics Tools in Teradata Vantage: The Dataiku Powerhouse

Data Science Studio (DSS) is an analytics tool warmly embraced by Teradata customers in our partnership with the parent company Dataiku. It is a full-featured tool with built-in ability to connect and interact with data sources in Teradata. A key element in further engaging our customers with DSS is the development of the Teradata plugins for DSS. These plugins facilitate significantly database interaction: They relieve the user from submitting SQL tasks to the Teradata SCRIPT Table Operator and the AsterAnalytics functions, and enable using these objects via an intuitive graphical environment. This presentation illustrates our next step in the DSS tools development. We demonstrate a new plugin to enhance DSS interaction with Teradata Vantage, and enable Vantage users to access the Coprocessor analytics functions from DSS; we further explore these new features in action through a proof-of-concept customer engagement.

Anticipating the Equifax Hack using Consumer Complaints

Public sources of data like the Consumer Complaints from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can provide an enormous amount of information about the events that affect us as a country. Using NLP and other Text Analytic techniques we can monitor the text of a complaint for emerging issues that haven't been seen before. The Equifax Hack is a great example. As the public waits for months to become aware of the largest breach of sensitive personal information to date, the affected are submitting complaints and reports of identity theft. In this session I will describe the the methods of text analytics used to monitor and identify emerging topics as soon as they become relevant. From Genomic Research to Interdisciplinary Precision Medicine

Typically, such information resides within scores if not hundreds of disparate databases, registries, data collections, and depart- mental systems. In the ear of precision medicine it is important to have capability to not only identifying new approaches for delivering better outcomes to patients, but even more so the ability to deliver these directly to the bedside, where doctors are making critical decisions on how to treat patients. Fundamental to the success of this kind of use cases are the capabilities to industrializing analytics by which we mean the ability to run analytical models against very large data sets under very tight SLA's (response time) so as to ensure timely delivery of recommendations to doctors treating patients.

Automated Model Selection and Hyper-Parameter Tuning at Scale

Creating effective analytics models often needs experimentation with multiple applicable learning algorithms in search of the best representative model for the data set. In addition, data scientists experiment with variations of algorithm tuning parameters (hyper-parameters) to obtain the best model for each algorithm. These lengthy processes can consume much of a data scientist's valuable time when performed manually and/or serially. In this presentation we demonstrate how to use the Teradata Analytics Platform to perform hyper-parameter tuning at scale using parallel grid search and other advanced algorithms. We will also demonstrate how automated classification and regression models can be established via automated search of modeling algorithm and optimization of algorithm hyper-parameters. Utilizing advanced search algorithms and harvesting the power of parallelism, the Teradata Analytics Platform can reduce hours and days of manual effort by a data scientist down to minutes.

Powering Native In-DB R/Python Analytics with the Anaconda Distribution

R and Python are two of the most popular external languages used by data scientists to work with data, build models, and apply Machine Learning algorithms in the AnalyticOps context. Teradata currently offers the SCRIPT (STO) and ExecR Table Operators to enable executing your R and Python scripts natively in-database (in-DB). However, underlying operating system dependencies made it challenging for a while to accommodate the latest R and Python packages for data scientists on Teradata. This presentation illustrates how our partnership with Anaconda overcomes this hurdle, and empowers our existing Teradata customers and the Teradata Analytics Platform (TDAP) users alike with the latest rich R and Python capabilities. The enterprise class 1 PB EDW at CMS comprises of over 65 data sources providing analytics to over 3000 users across 25 business components. Users (internal, external and federal contractors) engage in data from simple BI reports to complex machine learning and predictive analytics. This paper addresses how Teradata built a dynamic, custom row and column level security 'in database' so it is transparent and fits the need for any class of user. The security is controlled completely inside Teradata so it is seamless to applications, tools and end users. The concept of security views, user profile tables, job codes and end-to-end architecture behind this secure solution will be explained. Finally, we will talk about Virtual Data Marts and how they translate this from a user standpoint to drive secure analytics. I have been able to create applications within a few days from start to finish to deploy on the internet and mobile devices. I will share with you some techniques so you can build these applications for your company and customers. I have learned these skills through an App Development class at school and through my own research. I have demonstrated my use of these services to the Ohio School Boards Association. A few of the key, free-to-use tools include MIT App Inventor, Firebase Database, Google Analytics, and Google Sites. These services enable rapid prototype deployment to solicit users' feedback. I will show you these services, and you can start using them today.

To advance Enterprise Analytics, Cleveland Clinic partnered with Teradata to develop a comprehensive architecture. After the first 15 months, increased capability has been delivered in several key areas. This presentation will provide an overview of the environment and share success stories that have led to demonstrated value. The architecture includes Teradata structured database platform, Hadoop cluster, Data Labs, and a SAS 750 Teradata appliance connected with private ByNet network. The capacity and performance of the database has enabled analysis to support value-based care initiatives by housing data from both the financial and clinical domains. This capability along with the speed of performance were not possible in the previous environment. The ability to join data across systems has provided new ways to combine data between Hadoop and Teradata through QueryGrid. Multiple examples of Data Labs initiatives will also be reviewed to show how it too has quickly provided value.

Teradata AppCenter, Enabling Self-Service Analytics throughout the UDA

Many companies are faced with the problem of pockets of analytical code and scripts that are not easily developed, used or shared throughout the enterprise. The silos of code make it difficult for developers and data scientist to create effective analytics. The silos also makes it difficult for many analytical users from the business user, to the data analyst to effectively gain insight into data across multiple systems. Teradata AppCenter can help solve that problem and enable effective analytic development as well as analytic self-service usage and sharing across the enterprise. This presentation will look at what Teradata AppCenter is, its technology, its modern extensible containerized architecture as well as its deployment models. We will also look at the ability to import custom containers that can even contain analytical engines that enable the data scientist to test and explore within the environment. We will also touch on the future Teradata AppCenter roadmap.
